Cannabutter: The best recipe the internet has to offer for your cannabis-infused-butter needs
Our team polled the internet and other industry professionals for the best cannabutter recipe available. What we landed on was a simple yet effective way to infuse your butter with cannabis.
Easily used in edible recipes, this cannabutter can be made and stored for several weeks in the fridge and up to six months in the freezer.
1 cup of butter
1 cup (10 grams) of decarboxylated cannabis
Directions for Decarboxylating Cannabis:
Decarboxylation occurs when you add heat to cannabis. Since decarboxylation happens naturally when you smoke, it’s important to make sure you do the same for your cannabis before turning it into an edible. The process allows for THCA (a non-intoxicating acidic cannabinoid) to be converted into THC (a psychoactive cannabinoid which will get you high). If you skip this step you’ll end up with some odd tasting butter that won’t produce a THC high.
How to decarboxylate your cannabis:
Preheat your oven to 245ºF or 120ºC
Grab a cooking tray, cover it with parchment paper and place your ground cannabis on top
Set your timer for 30 minutes
Stir the cannabis every 10 minutes
Now, with your decarboxylated cannabis, you’re ready to make cannabutter. You can do this either in a slow cooker or on the stove top.
Add your butter and water into a pot. Simmer on low, letting the butter melt. Butter burns very easily, so the water is necessary here to regulate temperature. Once the butter starts melting you can add your cannabis. Maintain a low, simmering heat and let simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Don’t let the cannabutter come to a full boil.
Set your slow cooker to the lowest setting – ideally around 160ºF or 70ºC
Add the butter and ground cannabis
After 3 hours, turn off the crockpot and wait for the butter to cool.
Grab a funnel, some cheesecloth, and a container
Pour the cooled butter over the cheesecloth into the container
Let your cannabutter strain freely
Refrigerate and enjoy!
